I have been learning piano since I was 11; playing the piano is what I enjoy most and feel it is a great pleasure and privilege to pass this joy on to my students. However, much to most students’ disappointment, there is an enormous amount of work involved in learning not just the technical skill of playing the piano but also the artistry required to become a musician.
Of course, not all students appreciate or are ready to commit to the hard work involved and it is my challenge to encourage them to develop their own skills and realise their full musical potential. Many of my students successfully present for exams and competitions annually, however, I feel my greatest enjoyment comes from watching young students grow, develop and achieve musical goals they never thought they could.
I completed university degrees majoring in both pedagogy and piano performance, receiving many awards for both solo performance and accompanying, and enjoy continually learning and developing new skills in these areas. I believe it’s important to continually develop my own skills so I can keep my own musical experiences in line with what students are (forced) to endure!
With so much time spent on the piano there is not much left for other things, however, I do manage to fit in some photography, the occasional session on the snowboard and racing birds on my road bike.
